ALU and Floating Point Efficiency and Effectiveness in computing devices

چکیده

The Arithmetic Logic Unit is responsible for carrying all the computation problems in computer systems. ALU denotes such operations as subtraction, multiplication and division. Similar to ALU is the floating point unit (FPU) which performs operations based on the floating point numbers. Computer speed or performance depends on the approach adopted on the microprocessors that are normally associated with the overall performance of the computer system. This research paper analyzes a number of aspects that are geared towards improving the overall performance of the computer systems with specific emphasis placed on the architecture of the microprocessors. A comparison approach is adopted in the literature review that is adopted in the research where different technologies are compared to establish the overall impact of the computer systems. Some of the aspects analyzed in the research include ITRS technology node, data bus width, execution time, and power utilization. Keyword: ALU, CMOS, QCA, pipeline, FPU, clock period, dynamic power, and cell internal power.
